I drafted a new script called COYOTE. Details here, or read a 10 page extract.
Synopsis
A young man named Luke joins a “Minuteman” group to help protect the United States’ border from illegal immigrants. Paired on patrol with an older white supremacist named Vince, Luke must maintain a mask of acceptance to gain the older man’s trust, as it is revealed Luke and his Mexican girlfriend Anna are involved in a “coyote” operation, smuggling human cargo over the border.

I’m pleased to announce that I have been awarded a fellowship from the Michener Center at the University of Texas at Austin. I will begin working toward my MFA in Creative Writing with a playwriting focus this fall. More details concerning this fellowship are here.
Briefly put, Michener Fellows pay no tuition, are awarded a stipend annually, have access to substantial career development funds, and are not required to teach to support themselves (although there are some teaching opportunities through the program).
The program is mentioned in the Atlantic’s article here. It is also ranked well (#4) on Poets & Writers 2010 MFA Rankings here.
I am very enthusiastic about the Fellowship and owe thanks any number of people who have helped educate and prepare me as a thinker and writer, including my parents, teachers, professors, and innumerable fellow artists and theatre practitioners in Minneapolis, New York, and London who’ve shared their time, experiences, and work with me. To be a full time and professional writer has been a goal of mine for many years, and no writer (least of all a playwright) works in a vacuum, so these thanks are surely in order.

My play QUIVER has been named a finalist for the 2010 Smith Prize. The National New Play Network awards the Smith Prize annually to a play that specifically focuses on American politics and has been awarded since 2006. Nine scripts have been named finalists, and the award will be announced in June.
More information about the National New Play Network at the Smith Prize may be found here.
